A lens on life
Life never goes to plan, and that’s what makes it worth living. The people you meet by chance, the new experiences, the journeys you undertake. The art you discover or create yourself. All of that shapes the person you eventually become.
As a bilingual journalist in the world of entertainment with a focus on the Japanese industry and the creatives within it for over 8 years, my aim has always been to help audiences understand the unique ideas underscoring the creative business in the country. As part of this, I’ve interviewed film directors of Godzilla -1.0 director Takashi Yamazaki and anime creator Naoko Yamada, VTubers, game creators like npckc and Hifumi Kono, produced profiles on community meetups like Tokyo Indies, and much more.
I additionally have experience as an event reporter covering everything from the Pokemon World Championships to Tokyo Game Show, Niigata, Tokyo and Berlin International Film Festivals, Star Wars Celebration, all the way to local galleries and exhibitions and artist showcases. I have produced cover features for the UK’s Play Magazine, and featured in publications such as The Verge, Letterboxd, SCRMBL, Polygon, Eurogamer, Dicebreaker, Crunchyroll, gamesindustry.biz and Techradar, among others.
These ideals have similarly inspired my approach to photography. Rather than simply capturing a portrait of a person or a location or event, I want my photos to serve as a window into the inner world of the subject or location itself. These images not only tell a story themselves, they leave space for the audience to expand upon its frozen universe, or to reflect on themselves.
My photos have featured in print publications such as Generations, as well as photojournalism work for my reporting or the reporting of others. This has ranged from major events to cosplay to street photography to personal shoots, taking advantage of various mediums from digital photography to film, digicams and Polaroid. I’m currently looking to expand this area of work with more portrait shoots of individuals, as well as on behalf of major outlets.
